SATURDAY, JUNE 28
Election of Fondoneras. Music by Los Happys.
The Fondoneras are girls chosen to represent the town of Hondón de las Nieves at official events and celebrations. Selected every two years, they hold this honorary role for the duration of their reign. There are two groups of Fondoneras: the older girls, typically teenagers, and the younger girls, aged 7 to 10.
During official events, they proudly wear traditional dresses, symbolizing the town's heritage and community spirit. For local girls, being chosen as a Fondonera is both a great honor and a significant responsibility. It is a deeply emotional experience, not only for them but also for their families, who take great pride in seeing their daughters represent Hondón de las Nieves in such a cherished tradition.

Correfoc, which translates to "fire-run" in Catalan, is a traditional festive event in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and Valencia, Spain. The event involves participants dressing as devils and dancing to the rhythm of drums and other musical instruments while igniting and wielding fireworks. Here are the key elements of a correfoc:
Participants: Known as "diables" (devils), they are often organized into groups called "collas" or "colles." These groups can also include other mythical figures such as dragons and other beasts.
Fireworks: The diables carry fireworks, which they ignite and swing around, creating showers of sparks. The fireworks are usually attached to pitchforks or other devices that can be safely handled.
Procession: The event typically takes the form of a procession through the streets of a town or city. Spectators often participate by getting close to the action, dancing under the showers of sparks, and enjoying the thrilling atmosphere.
Music and Drums: Traditional music, particularly the rhythmic beating of drums, accompanies the correfoc. The music sets the pace for the procession and adds to the overall intensity of the event.
Costumes: Participants wear elaborate costumes, often featuring devil masks, horns, and other fiery or demonic elements. The costumes are designed to protect against sparks and burns from the fireworks.
Safety: While correfocs are exhilarating, they are also carefully regulated to ensure safety. Participants usually wear protective clothing, and there are specific safety guidelines in place to prevent accidents.
Correfocs are part of larger festivals, such as local patron saint celebrations or cultural events. They are deeply rooted in Catalan folklore and are a way for communities to celebrate their heritage with vibrant, high-energy displays.
